  	Sourisford and Area from 1879 On Feb 1, 1886, John B. [Elliot] married Lydia Snyder, the third youngest daughter of Amos and Catherine Snyder. She was born in 1863 and had come to Sourisford with her parents and other members of her family in 1882. The children born to this union were: Charles, born November 1886; Mamie, born December, 1888; Hazel, born July, 1892; and Margaret, born in 1901. The first year of their marriage their crop was partially hailed and later a prairie fire took what was left. In 1903, their home was burned so they moved into the Essena house on the north half of the same section. They were building a new house in 1905 when a cyclone destroyed the partially built house and damaged the Essena house in which they were still living. Mrs. Elliot was hit with falling timber during the cyclone and was killed. Her daughter Margaret was sitting on her mother's knee at the time, but was not injured. p. 10
